Every ruling in HalalRx follows established Islamic jurisprudence. Here's what each status means for your users.
The medication contains no haram ingredients according to the specified madhab. Safe to use. All known excipients are from permissible sources.
Contains a clearly forbidden ingredient (e.g. porcine gelatin). However, the principle of darura (necessity) applies — if no halal alternative exists and the medication is medically necessary, all four madhabs permit its use.
The source of one or more ingredients cannot be verified as halal or haram. Islamic principle: "Leave what makes you doubt for what does not make you doubt." (Hadith — Tirmidhi 2518). Avoid when a confirmed halal alternative exists.
When a haram-containing medication is the only available treatment for a serious condition, all four madhabs permit its use. This override is noted in every haram ruling. Always consult a qualified Islamic scholar for personal decisions.
The same drug can be halal in one form and haram in another. Vitamin D3 in a softgel capsule is typically haram (porcine gelatin), but Vitamin D3 in tablet form is halal. Amoxicillin capsules are typically haram; some manufacturers (e.g. Noor Vitamins) offer halal-certified versions. Always check the specific product and manufacturer.
